Did you exceed your expectations for yourself this year? How?
Myleik: Hmmm … The funny thing about this year is that I don’t think I really had any expectations of myself. I was really looking to find the center – a place that was more balanced than anything I’ve ever experienced. I’m one of those “go” girls. I love working and I’m constantly setting work goals and in many ways I managed to neglect some other parts of me that are important to being a “whole” person. So not putting any “expectations” on myself and really focusing on being a more balanced person was my goal. I think I’m going OK.
What’s one event that sticks out in your mind that really helped you in terms of growth?
Myleik: I had a bit of an emotional break down last year. I was in New York on my umpteenth work trip and out of nowhere it just seemed like everything was closing in on me. I was exhausted personally and professionally. I had spent countless hours staying up all night long, always making sure I was on, always being OK to anyone who would ask. I collapsed and decided to spend the next seven months in psychotherapy – what an amazing thing! I’ve always been ambitious and set these real, sort of “concrete” goals, but how often do we put that SAME energy into ourselves? (more…)
It’s September! It’s the infamous “fourth quarter” … A chance to finish strong or accept defeat and prepare to start 2013 out the right way (focused, disciplined, etc). Either way you cut it, it’s a good time of the year. And I love Fall! Don’t you love it? You’re right on the edge where you can pull off some of the looks that could be side-eye worthy … Or maybe I’m the only one ready to wear daisy dukes and cowboy boots (don’t judge my life). *lol* I guess that’s more like those few weeks right before Fall begins. Anywho … Without further ado … This is what I’m feeling this week!
One of the perks of this job is being able to test brand new products before they ever even hit the market! I’ve been a fan of Ouidad for quite some time. I’ve tried nearly every item in the line and it’s clear that they understand curly hair. When I was approached with the opportunity to test on of their new products, I could NOT resist (uuuummmm … I AM a self-professed product junkie)!
Shea Radiance is a Columbia, Maryland based eco-luxury beauty brand that was founded in 2005 by husband and wife team Shola and Funlayo Alabi and last week they went on to the shelves of several Target stores! We sampled Shea Radiance in the July curlBOX and it received rave reviews from the curlBOX crew. Yesterday, Shea Radiance celebrated with an over the top party in Columbia, MD and guess who they invited to attend? You guessed correct! We were on hand to take in all of the joy and happiness at this amazing event.
Myleik said:This is the first time I’ve ever had a “meet up” and I had such an AMAZING time with this group! So much so that I feel like we’re family in our own special little Miami way. I’ve since had another meet up and when they come out I can’t wait to see them (FYI: Miami is like my second home … *lol*). After this meet up I felt more in tune with my purpose. Sure … We gather in the name of hair products but we’re connected by love, inspiration and the quest for being better together. You can’t really beat that. I shared this blog with my Dad too (I’m close with both of my parents) and my Dad replied back with: ”What a way to live your life!” I couldn’t agree more.
