The Look: Darling Updos

Fly high, my loves. Take those curls to new heights by doing a fabulous updo with these three tips.

1. HAVE THE RIGHT PINS: Many curlies make the mistake of not having long bobby pins. These accessories are sturdy and tight. They work much better than short pins, which usually result in your kinks, curls or waves exploding out of your ‘do. Use pins that don’t collapse under pressure. Also, criss cross your pins for more staying power. X marks the spot.

2. DON’T FORGET YOUR SLICKER-UPPER: Taming edges is a feat. This month’s box offers two slick offerings:  Creme Of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges and Elentee Soy Twist And Lock Gel (varies in some boxes). Brushing is your best bet for achieving super sleek edges. Luckily, you have your trusty First Line Evolve Deep Stimulating Brush.

3. TWIST BEFORE YOU STYLE: After smoothing your hair up or on the side, twist your remaining hair for better manipulation. Gather your hair into small or large twists when creating buns, pompadours and chignons. Slightly twisted hair allows you to create more volume and neater styles. No flyaways or unraveling puffs. Use a little Elentee Soy Anti-breakage Moisturizer to smooth frizz and add shine just before loosely twisting.

*Note: All products are available in the January 2013 curlBOX editions. Some products may vary.
